Volunteering Opportunities – THESE HAVE NOW BEEN FILLED, THANK YOU.

We are recruiting for some exciting volunteer roles – A Chair, Treasurer, and an Additional Trustee (Fundraising Skills) to join the existing Board of this small local charity. We are also recruiting for a Learning & Development Co-ordinator.

ELSH is based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire and was founded by Florentine Bootha-King in 2015, becoming a registered charity in October 2019. ELSH is also registered with the UK Register of Learning Providers. Florentine achieved a Master of Education in International Teaching and had the vision to use her qualifications in order “to bring all communities together in Barnsley through the English language, with a foundation of valued life-long learning for those adults truly in need within the community.”

The mission of ELSH is ‘’to provide a positive, safe and stimulating environment for young parents, young adults not actively engaged in education, employment or training, asylum seekers, refugees and migrants to enjoy their learning, achieve their potential, and to successfully integrate, become independent and part of the local community. ELSH provides free Entry 1, 2 and 3 ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) in addition to basic Maths and IT skills. ELSH also provides access to valuable resources for the local refugee and migrant community to help secure not only settlement in the UK where required, but also housing and advice on how to find employment or further education.

The Charity achieves this in an environment where people can meet others faced with similar challenges and who are looking to integrate successfully into the local community. There are no lengthy assessment periods so that ELSH can provide the support required quickly and free for those in need.

ELSH is now looking for volunteers who have the time, commitment, knowledge and skills to work with the other trustees to deliver the strategy for the next exciting stage of Charity’s development. We are looking for a Chair who can lead the Board through a period of growth for our services, and a Treasurer with an accountancy background who can deliver a strong internal governance framework. ELSH is also seeking an additional Trustee with fundraising skills particularly in securing grants from grant-making trusts and foundations that are strongly aligned to our vision. Finally, we are seeking a Learning & Development Co-ordinator with strong administration skills to ensure the efficient running of ELSH on a day-to-day basis.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds but are particularly interested in candidates who have experience and knowledge of working in delivering exceptional education and life skills to the black, Asian and minority ethnic groups.

If you are interested in this opportunity or would like more information, send your C.V and a cover letter to info@elshub.org.uk. Thank you for your interest.
