Supporting socially excluded communities
Do you want to support an organisation formed to promote social inclusion for the public benefit among people who are socially excluded on the grounds of their social and economic position? An organisation that provides support particularly for, but not limited to young parents, young people not engaged in further education, employment or training, migrant workers, and asylum seekers, why not consider becoming an ELSH Trustee.
If you have never thought about being a trustee or are not sure what it involves, don’t rule it out. Trustees are an important section of the volunteering community across the UK. They are, amongst other things, responsible for ensuring charities comply with its governing document (its Articles of Association), and charity law. The Trustees at ELSH share ultimate responsibility for governing ELSH charity and directing how it is managed and run. They must always act in the interests of ELSH.
What can you get out of being an ELSH trustee?
This is an exciting opportunity for an incoming Trustee to grow ELSH in a sustainable manner and to identify and work on new projects that help to remove barriers to education for asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants across Barnsley. This is a chance to use your skills to make a direct impact on the lives of these vulnerable people.
In terms of charity trusteeship generally, a recent report from the Civil Society Trust found that 96% of trustees who took part in their research said they learnt new skills being a trustee, 73% said it boosted their confidence and 84% said it made them happier.

Skills we Need
We are specifically recruiting for one trustee with experience in Human Resources and one with experience of Digital Transformation. If you have experience in either of these areas please do download the specific role descriptions and consider applying to join us. We are also open to applications for general trustees, particularly with experience in;
- Financial management, income generation and enterprise
- Information Technology and Data Protection
- Fundraising
- Collaborative partnerships
- Social investment and impact
- Marketing
- Recordkeeping, information retrieval and dissemination of Management Committee data/documentation to the trustees and relevant parties and the writing of agendas and concise minutes.
